I Disagree.

We were at the gym the other night walking on the treadmill when hubster pointed at the TV on the wall ahead of us.  A Weight Watchers commercial was on the screen and the slogan was something like "Weight Watchers Works."  He was nodding his head and smiling and that's good.  I was thinking to myself though as I continued on my treadmill path, no it doesn't, I do.   So after a day of thinking about this (and why I over think, I'll never know), we were on our way to the meeting when I had to say something about it.  And this is kind of how it went...

"You know last night when we saw that commercial about WW?  I disagree with it.  I think it's an undeniable fantastic tool, but just because I joined, there's no guarantee I'll lose weight.  Now I can MAKE Weight Watchers work by following the plan, but just because I'm a member really means nothing. Just as the saying 'Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you a mechanic.'

You have to work at this.  You have to move and sweat. You have to eat better.  You have to make healthier choices. You have to keep some record of what you're doing throughout the day.  You have to get rid of bad habits. You have to educate yourself about good nutrition.  You have to go to meetings (this works for us, but others use e-tools).  You have to want it and be willing to go get it.  You have to take responsibility for your life.

We are the key to making this work and all other things are just plans on the table until we put them into action."
