Menu Plan Monday -- The Reality

Menu Planning Monday

I'm going to be very bold here and share the true way I am sometimes... okay, some days more than sometimes.  I just get tired of cooking.  It's like 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, 30 days a month.  Seems like that's all I do... that and dishes.  We don't have a dishwasher.  Not kidding.

Every week, I make a menu plan and shopping list.  I try to make it through as it is... but seldom do for ridiculous thoughts or sloppy organization in my day.  So that in bold is the men plan, that in italics is my guess of what's going to be the reality.  I'll update Sunday evening and maybe this will be the first week I've ever made it through actually. - Tonight doesn't count because I wasn't going to be honest about the week.  I was going to look good... on paper (or screen) at least.

Monday:   BLT's & Chips - The unprepared, I hate cooking night.  What is there to eat anyhow? (note.. I win this one!  I posted this after we had dinner anyhow).

Tuesday:  BBQ Shredded Chicken, corn on the cob, broccoli - At 3:35, remember to get the chicken in the crockpot so you can eat at 6.  Realize the chicken is frozen, run under hot water until it's semi thawed (or your hands burn off) and then say, eh... whatever, we won't want to eat until Big Brother is over anyhow.

Wednesday: Ham & cheese omelets, toast - Remember that the girls have youth group and since it's just us, it becomes fix your own dinner night.  Feel guilty, complain about being so mean to him and go fix it anyhow and then sulk for a while.  How rude can you be over nothing? Seriously? Please. Then decide to have some ice cream or something.Thursday:  Spaghetti w/mini meatballs, salad, garlic bread - Ask myself why I'm even making this dish.  I don't like spaghetti, meatballs or salad.  Fix it anyhow because apparently I bought it sometime and I'm trying to clean out the freezer and pantry.  Eat extra garlic bread to get rid of the tomatoey taste now in my mouth.  By the way, do we have any tea made up... didn't think so.

Friday: Sloppy Joes (Turkey), green beans, baked potato - remember at 5:30 there's a ball game and head to Taco Bell for their $2 meal deal.

Saturday: Spicy Garlic Chicken Pizza, fruit - This will be a miracle if I make it tonight.  It's probably not going to be any good, why do I even try.  Okay, I can do this.  Forget it, let's have fajitas.

Sunday:  Roast in the crockpot, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese - Do we really need those mashed potatoes...we don't have any gravy for them.  You can use the roast juice?  Okay, I'll make them.

Menu Plan Monday - Crockpot meals from Econobusters Ebook

So the other day I bought the combo cookbook package from Econobusters.  In the combo was "$7 Slow Cooker Suppers Quick & Easy" and "$5 Dinners & $3 Desserts Cheap and Delicious."  I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed.  For $12.95 it was filled with over 288 pages combined!   Both are filled with recipes that my family will eat (okay...not so much the soups, but that's just in general and has nothing to do with the books) and are budget friendly.   Both cookbooks has price breakdowns as examples of what each meal will cost and several of the crockpot recipes have photos to show the end result.  I can honestly say these cookbooks will be ones that I refer to often.  And I seldom use cookbooks.

This week, I'm trying three new meals from the crockpot edition (Italian chicken, bacon burgers & french dip sandwiches).  I thought they sounded really good.  And I went ahead and planned out the entire month with a mix of meals.

mpm2-1

Monday - Sloppy Joes, baked beans, corn (kid cooks)
Tuesday - Italian chicken, stuffing, green beans (crockpot)
Wednesday - Biscuits and gravy, sausage (husband cooks)
Thursday - Chili & Peanut butter sandwiches (crockpot)
Fix Your Own Dinner Night
Saturday - Bacon Burgers, corn & french fries (crockpot)
Sunday - French dip sandwiches, green beans, devilled eggs (crockpot)
