Summer is ending... I'm kind of glad.

This has been the hottest summer!  I'm so glad it's coming to an end.  I'm ready for cooler temps, but not those that are below 40... so if we could just hold out between 40 and 70 I promise not to complain much.

I didn't end up going to jail over the guacamole.  It's a good thing too, life was too busy for that.  But a good friend did pick up the check for me without missing a beat.

Updates from the Life post:

*planning a church event
We held our festival and it was 107° with heat index.  It was terribly hot but it was one of the best days ever because God's glory was shared with so many new people.    We did have a nice turnout considering the heat.  The fun was immense and it was just a great day all around.

Carl made a reverse dunk tank that was a bunch of fun and I have to show off the pictures.  I promise you, that water was straight from the spigot and cold!

*preparing for the upcoming homeschool year
We started school on the 23rd and so far so good.. lol   By that, I mean we haven't missed any days.  That's always subject to change though.  I stepped down from the homeschool board and feel very relieved for doing so.  And we joined a second homeschool group that offered more.

*sweating ridiculously because of this incessant heat
From July to September we had all but 5 days that weren't above 95°

*spending time with Sarah before she returns to college
We took her back on the 18th.  She sang loudly the whole way there.  She had in earbuds.  It's annoying.  I love her.

*watching Kelly leave for a long vacationShe had a great time.  She went to Canada (old Quebec City/Niagra Falls), New York (Times Square/Statue of Liberty), Philadelphia, Maine and several other states in that area.  She killed her phone while she was gone and managed to get grilled by the Canadian Border Patrol.  It's kind of scary and definitely weird when you receive a call from them while going through a drive through at Mickey D's.   I mean, who do you ask "would you hold on for a second?"  The order taker or border patrol?  I didn't know the answer either...

*not cleaning my house like I should.
Hahahaha... somethings NEVER change.

My bedroom - a fail and a success...

I didn't get my bedroom organized like I wanted, but I have been working in there.  This week I bought a couple things that I've needed/wanted for a while for it.

I went to Walmart (which is like a huge nogo for me because I just don't like the place really) and found some new sheets in tan and dark chocolate (on sale, big +).  Then as we were walking around, I found some matching curtains and just fell in love with them.  They're dark chocolate colored too.

After thinking it over a while, I decided to go ahead and find a matching comforter.  Walmart was overpriced (to me) so I searched google for what I wanted and found this at Amazon.

Last but not least, I went ahead and bought a frame for our bed.  Why we never bought it when we got the new bed, I don't know.  But it's on it's way to us now.  And who knew walmart.com sold things like that... I didn't, but they sure do!

So even though I'm not where I want to be on the organizing challenge, I feel like I've made a great step towards getting the bedroom I've always wanted.   Now to continue the journey...

28 Day Organizing Challenge...

orgjunkielarge-1

::Pictures to come::

1. What do I want the purpose of my room or area to be?
- A quiet peaceful retreat.  I'd prefer a bed and breakfasty kind of room, but I'll even go with the no frills Howard Johnson kind of look.

2. What do I need in or near the room to serve that purpose?
Bed frame, lighting, laundry baskets.  I would like new bedding (sheets, pillows, throw pillows) but it's not required for organization.

3. What can I remove from the room?
Junk, Dust, Excessive old clothes.  And stuff that hasn't been put away... such as the air conditioner, the Christmas tree --- my room is not a storage closet!!  That black craft container, the scrapbook bag, stuff that we don't use.

4. What problems do I see with the room?
My room has become a storage closet.

5. What organizational tools might solve those problems?
Laundry baskets and I have no idea what else can help.  Couple of small baskets for keys, etc and maybe a shoe rack???

6. What habits need to change to solve the organizational problems?  Well, I need to make my bed, dust and vacuum more often.  Most of the time I don't because it looks like crud anyhow.   Both of us are guilty for not putting our things away quickly also.

And to everyone who resides in my home...No tossing things in my room!!

7. What kind of a budget do I have to create the organized room of my dreams?I think $200.00 would do it.

8. What kind of a timeline is necessary to organize the room?
28 Days

9. What is my plan of action?
To get everything moved out of there except for the bed, two end tables, dresser and tv.  Clean the closet and clean it out.  I've been trying to work in the mess for years.  After reading the process plan of organization, I'm going to take the mess out and then sort and replace things as necessary.

10. Who can I ask to help me with this?  Carl and Kelly
